Celebrating our unsung heroes, the teachers at JAAGO Foundation Schools

Teachers are not just educators; they are the architects of change. At JAAGO Foundation, our teachers go beyond the pages of textbooks to ignite curiosity, build confidence, and awaken dreams in every child they teach. They stand as mentors, guides, and role models, proving every day that education is not just about knowledge, but about hope and transformation.

This Teacher’s Day, we celebrate their passion, dedication, resilience, and compassion, the very forces shaping the future of thousands of children across Bangladesh. Their belief in the power of education turns challenges into opportunities and dreams into reality.

Teaching children from marginalised backgrounds in a charity-based school comes with unique challenges that go far beyond the classroom walls. Many students enter school carrying the weight of poverty, family struggles, or social exclusion, factors that directly affect their ability to focus, learn, and participate. Teachers often have to go the extra mile to bridge the learning gap caused by irregular attendance, limited parental involvement, and lack of exposure to basic educational tools.

Beyond academics, these children require emotional support, patience, and understanding. Many have faced trauma or instability at home, making it crucial for teachers to provide not only education but also a sense of safety and belonging. Teaching in such an environment demands empathy and adaptability—every child learns differently, and progress is often slow but deeply rewarding. It takes extraordinary dedication to nurture confidence, spark curiosity, and ensure that no child feels left behind, no matter how difficult their circumstances may be.

Let’s hear the stories of some of these teachers, who, despite the odds, continue to light up the path of our students.

Lipa Roy: Dedication Rooted in Love and Resilience

Lipa Roy, a teacher at JAAGO Foundation’s Dinajpur branch, has been guiding Reception class students since 2018. Each day, she brings infinite dedication, care, and joy to her classroom, making learning a nurturing and inspiring experience for every child.

Her personal journey mirrors the determination she brings to her students. Even after her marriage in 2019, she continued teaching while living at her father’s home to care for her ailing mother. Despite financial struggles that made completing her graduation difficult, she persisted, supported by her cousin sister and brother-in-law, who are teachers themselves. Lipa Miss successfully balances education, family responsibilities, and her passion for teaching.

Always cheerful and patient, Lipa Miss is deeply loved by her students. She maintains warmth and respect with her colleagues, and her greatest strength lies in her steadfast love for the Reception class—a love that has never wavered despite life’s challenges.

Keya Khatun: Commitment, Expertise, and Leadership

For the past six years, Keya Khatun has been an integral part of JAAGO Foundation School, serving with dedication through both rewarding and challenging times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when classrooms fell silent, she played a vital role in supporting JAAGO’s Tel-Ed project, ensuring her students could continue learning from home despite the limitations. Her patience and persistence helped bridge the gap between students and education during one of the most difficult periods for teachers and children alike.

Beyond her regular duties, Keya Miss has actively participated in parent meetings, school events, and mentoring new teachers, always leading with kindness and humility. For over 15 years, she has also managed a local school in her community, reflecting her lifelong commitment to education. Respected for her sincerity and compassion, she embodies the spirit of a true teacher, someone who uplifts others quietly, yet leaves an impact that lasts far beyond the classroom.

Sathi Begum: Perseverance, Compassion, and Moral Leadership

Sathi Begum, the youngest of three siblings, has been part of JAAGO Foundation since January 2022. From childhood, she excelled in academics and arts, supported by her family. Despite personal and family challenges, including her father’s illness and financial hardships, Sathi Miss has devoted herself to teaching with honesty, integrity, and love.

She treats each student as her own, nurturing them and fostering a love of learning. Deeply devoted to her faith, Sathi Miss sees education as a tool to instil humanity, ethics, and social change. Her dream is to create a positive impact on society, one child at a time.
